bass is the best instrument ever created!!!

this is my 7th year playing double bass and i fall more in love with it every day!!!!

i like playing in orchestras and small ensembles...im still getting used to the whole solo thing...

im slowly starting to play some jazz too....it's funny cuz when i first started playing (back in 7th grade) i vowed never to play jazz....and guess what? my fiance is a jazz musician, what are the odds of that? lol

anyway, im so glad to see other female bassists out there!!!

Hi! [15 Jan 2008|07:59pm]

[ mood | sleepy ]

I joined this community a while back, but never posted. My name is Brittanny and I play bass guitar. Sort of. I'm still learning, really. But I've mastered two songs! Well, one and a half really - and do scales count? LOL I fell in love with the sound of the bass way back when I was 12 or 13. I got my guitar when I was 14, but I was never really serious aout persuing it until recently (I'm 24 now). It's a Rogue, I don't even remember the model name or number anymore. But I love it. Mikey Way of My Chemical Romance has one almost identical to it (I think his is a Fender, though), if I can find a pic of his, I'll post. Anyway, I found this community because I'm a huge fan on Lyn-Z, the bassist for Mindless Self Indulgence. She is one rockin' Bass Chick. I aspire to be as awesome as her one day.

Saying hi. [26 Apr 2006|06:35pm]

[ mood | good ]

My name is Christy Lynne. I am a singer/bass player from Central California. I joined this community a little bit ago and hope to maybe make friends with a few more bassists (the world can never have too many).

This is my bass. It is an upright from King Doublebass. It's a Slap King model and I use Rotosounds RS4000 strings. I run it through a K&K pickup and into a Kustom amp (that is, until I get the cash to buy a better one) but it does the job.

I play mostly rockabilly/country type stuff. I really like the old vintage sounds that you hear a lot on the older records from people like Elvis, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Wanda Jackson, Johnny Burnette Trio...but I like a lot of the newer stuff....bands/people you might recognize would be Stray Cats, Reverend Horton Heat, BR5-49, Dwight Yoakam. So yeah, that's me. :)

mod post! [26 Nov 2005|06:33pm]

wow, its been a while since this place has been active. i see some people have joined but only one has posted!

right now i'm searching musiciansfriend.com for a bass. i sold mine 5 years ago, and i miss it so much. so i'm thinking this chrismas i'll take advantage of sales at dave phillips or guitar villa (local music store). i wish my dad would give me his retired '67 Fender Jazzmaster, since he has a 2000 Fender Fretless and a Fender Aerodyne for his gigs. eh.. anyway.

what i'm really setting my heart on is an acoustic. amps and cords can get in the way. but why are acoustics so much more than electric? i understand theres a bit more craftsmanship in an acoustic, but because it doesnt need electronics, you would think that it would be cheaper? oh well. the sexiest i've seen so far is the Michael Kelly Dragonfly. but its $700. :\

does anyone have suggestions as to acoustics that are reasonably priced, yet good quality?

on guitarshop.net they have a Daisy Rock Pixie Series A/E for $369. its blue, with a heart shaped cutout in sky blue or powder pink. its very cute, really girly.
DaisyRock.com has a bunch of others that are really neat, too.

well i guess that's it for now.

allow myself to introduce...myself [12 May 2005|01:17am]

[ mood | fidgety ]

hello all! my name's nicky. i've been playing bass (fretless electric; his name is herbert; he says hello) for the past 2ish years now. and i played upright back in jazz & fiddlers in elementary school.

hmmm... i should say something interesting... my favourite song to play on bass & sing over: julee cruise's "up in flames" - it's a simple yet sweet chromatic walking bassline, with really high soprano vocals (it's in C) - nice contrast :-)

im looking for some more Talking Heads tabs. so far i only have psycho killer and take me to the river... but those were the easiest to find. other than the pretty famous songs, like once in a lifetime, and those 2, anything else isnt tabbed. like right now i'm looking for slippery people and (nothing but) flowers, but no one has it!!!

does anyone know of good tab sites that might have it? i've checked tabcrawler.com but they dont have anything. hmm.. disappointing :(

Hey there, thought I'd make an intro post. A long time classical guitarist, I recently acquired my first bass around November time and have been besotted with it ever since.

Now after a decent acoustic bass, but as I've already got four guitars I've nowhere to put another ...

Not much else to say, apart from hello! :o)

(And that's my bass in my userpic, heh)

yay :) im happy to see a few more grrls have joined, one actually not from lesbianstoners hahah!
if you havent made an introductory post, dont be shy, its all love here.
and if there are some suggestions as to icons, interests, or other info page stuff, think of something and send it my way, i'll be sure to add it.

the women mentioned on the 'interests' section are the ones i got from Fender's top 10 greatest female bassists. number one, was Carol Kaye who rightly deserves that spot. second, is my true love, Tina Weymouth, formerly of Talking Heads and now has a band with husband Chris Frantz also of TH, called the Tom Tom Club, you should definetly check them out they're really funky, in an 80s sort of way.

by the way, my name is Emma. i'm the owner/moderator/creator of this lovely shindig, and i fucking love bass. ive been playing since i was 13, havent really kept up with it because i dont actually have one right now. i made a dumb mistake in high school and i sold it to someone who didnt even play it. im pretty much self taught, though my sister taught me some things she picked up on guitar, and i really suck at playing but ya know what? i dont give a damn. the sweet sounds of the low end make me happy no matter what skill level.

anyhoo... i might be making up some advertising, if anyone would like to distribute. im not exactly anticipating alot of people to join, but if things change then in the future i'll probably name a moderator. *shrug* who knows.

in the mean time, post anything you'd like. pictures, tabs, bands you cant live without, songs with a good bass line, whatever.

thanks, and have fun

Sorry I don't play bass but I really do want to learn. I play French Horn though :). I love bands and music and anything related to either of those two. I have wanted to learn how to play bass for a long time but nobody wants to teach me and I don't have enough money to go get lessons. :( Anyways, hello !
